Gubbio Christmas Tree
After leading my second Walking trails in September 2023, there was a story that I was very keen to follow. I arranged to meet and interview Albero, the men who meet every Sunday for twelve weeks before Christmas in Gubbio. Over twelve weeks they layout hundreds of lights across the tree tops of a mountain, creating an amazing outline of a Christmas tree across the mountain ! In 1991 it entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the World Largest Christmas Tree. It is a wonderful display just above the enchanting Medieval town of Gubbio – one of many medieval gems in Umbria the Green heart of Italy.
Following on from my popular Walking trails in Umbria I am organising a 3 night medieval Christmas experience on December 12!
Thursday :Arriving at Rome(FCO) Airport. At 5 pm Travel by train from Rome Termini (2h20min) to Assisi. Staying in Assisi district for 3 nights in beautiful Mt Subasio National Park. 830pm visit Assisi by night.
Friday: Travelling 40 minutes by bus to Gubbio for Worlds largest Christmas Tree and Markets, local walk and other amenities.
Saturday: 5km moderate walk in Mt Subasio National Park and Assisi UNESCO World Heritage town. Evening in Umbria’s capital Perugia for Markets and local festivities, 20 minutes train travel
Sunday morning departure for Rome by train
